Natalie Rodriguez has been sent to help protect Carlos Ruiz and his son from some local alligator poachers. Natalie and her dog, Missy, are both retired from the Army and have PTSD. Carlos and his son are recovering from losing his wife two years prior and just starting to live their lives again. Carlos is intrigued by Natalie, and his son Luis, who has always wanted a dog, is quickly drawn to Missy the Lab. Gradually over time, Natalie and Carlos find themselves falling for each other, but both are aware of all the baggage they come with.
