"While these particular Tuttle textbooks are suitable for, and typically used in, classroom settings, including in some of the best universities in North America, they can also serve as an excellent out-of-class reference tool and can very well complement formal language classes or other study materials for the self-learner. From my experience, this series should appeal to a broad range of people, including individuals working on their own, professional people working with a tutor, or students in a classroom setting. I have personally used the Tuttle Elementary and Continuing textbooks both as part of university classes and on my own, and I have been very satisfied with them. —Lingholic blog"|This is a comprehensive and user-friendly elementary level Hindi textbook and language learning package.

O'Brien expands his 1989 collection, Crackling Mountain and Other Stories, with an updated introduction and additional stories to create the most comprehensive compilation of Dazai's translated shorts written between 1933 and 1947. "Lionized as the writer who best expressed the desperation of a society in chaos," Dazai was just 38 when his fifth suicide attempt succeeded in 1948. His anguished life provided extensive inspiration for his fiction, including "Memories" and "My Older Brothers," which reveal his relationships within his large--and largely disapproving--family; "Homecoming" allows him a return home as his mother's death looms. "Eight Views of Tokyo" captures his decade as a dissolute, debt-ridden writer; in it, Dazai mentions writing "Putting Granny Out to Die," which soon follows, exposing an earlier failed double suicide with his wife. He again examines double suicide in "Osan," this time from the deserted wife's viewpoint as she's left with a "stupid trivial letter" from her philandering husband. Dazai also rewrites myths and tales, including one about two loyal friends who challenge King Dionysius' tyranny, and "Crackling Mountain," featuring a teen rabbit who outsmarts a lecherous old badger. He surprises by channeling Judas Iscariot in "Heed My Plea," championing kindness in "Currency," and humanizing a baby killer in "The Monkey's Mound." The breadth of Dazai's imagination is a breathtaking marvel.
