The seductive follow-up to Tonight, I Burn weaves a narrative with loss and betrayal at every twist and turn. Starting where the first in the series left off, the sequel finds Penny, Alice, and Malin picking up the pieces after the temple inferno and desperate to defeat Warden Halstett before he can destroy magic at the Samhain ball. Alice's visions are failing, and Penny, who is being forced to choose between love and obligation, is out of options and turns to the bound Sorcerer for help. He wants just one thing in exchange for a legion to fight the Warden--a drop of Penny's blood, which could set him free. Will the legions summoned be Penny's salvation or destruction? Because of this novel's intricate plotting and a breakneck pace, one should reread Tonight, I Burn before diving in. VERDICT Fans will be clamoring for the series' next book. A grimmer tone and lots of heat will appeal to fans of the morally gray protagonists of Rebecca Yarros and Sarah J. Maas.--Lacey Tobias
